Things had gone so bad that we even considered parting ways. However, God had other plans. We decided to seek counseling and came across the concept of emotional intimacy, which (even though we had) we had probably taken for granted in the course of our relationship. 

So, what is emotional intimacy? 

Emotional intimacy is like a deep bond between two people. It’s about feeling close and connected on a deeper level than just being friends or acquaintances. It’s like having a safe space where you can be yourself without feeling exposed. 

Can you think of sharing your secrets, fears, and dreams with someone without feeling judged or embarrassed? THAT’S emotional intimacy. 

When you have emotional intimacy with someone, you trust them to understand and support you, no matter what. It’s like having a best friend who always has your back. 

Research shows that emotional intimacy is crucial for overall well-being. Studies have found that people in emotionally intimate relationships are less likely to experience stress, depression, and anxiety. They also tend to have stronger immune systems and live longer (yes, you read that correctly). 

Emotional intimacy is not something that happens overnight. It takes time, effort, and trust to build a deep connection with someone. 

However, the rewards are worth it. When you have emotional intimacy with someone, you feel loved, supported, and understood. It’s a beautiful and fulfilling thing, and I am speaking out of experience!

I know what you might think: We just must talk to our partners. What’s the tough part? 

You see, building emotional intimacy in a relationship is not an easy thing to do. It is a complex process, and it takes time. It is all about getting to know each other on a deeper level, one that is beyond the skin. 

While things do feel all great when you are new to each other, the love might start to fade as the years go by. New relations are all about adrenaline and the desire to know each other. But when you have stayed together for a while, you feel like there is nothing new to know. 

The excitement fizzles out, and you feel like you are growing apart. And that’s when having a stronger emotional connection comes to the rescue. It is what keeps you and your partner together.

When it comes to emotional intimacy, having open and honest communication is the foundation of it. Share your thoughts, feelings, and experiences with your partner, and encourage them to do the same.
