Whilst the contributions of women on island were being celebrated in commemoration of International Women’s Day, one woman became the victim of what is purported to be another case of domestic violence homicide.
Reports indicate that the corpse of a 52 year old female was found yesterday in a residence in Augier, Vieux Fort with marks of extreme violence about the body.
In a statement made to RSL97 responding to the killing, Human Rights Activist Felicia Brown spoke vehemently on the need for a revised Domestic Violence Act.
An official statement has yet to be made by police, however it is alleged that a male individual is in custody assisting with the investigations surrounding the death – the islands 18th registered homicide for 2017.
This killing follows the murder of 31 year old Ciceron resident Sophia Edwards by her common law partner on her birthday, March 5th, 2017.
